Building a 9' 6wt St.Croix. The rod calls for a 4.0 tip top. I was infomed that the 4.0 tip top was too small and was sent a 4.5. The 4.5 wobbles on the tip; very loose. I wrapped about 6 turns of Guidebrod 'A' thread on the blank tip and placed the tip top on it; it fits like a glove. Question: Can I install the tip top over the thread or epoxy directly to the blank and try to keep it straight. I guess a third option would be to trim back the tip about 1/2", but I don't feel good about that option. Thanks Re: Tip Top Help

Keep the thread. In fact, if you can incorporate it into whatever thread trim wrap you might normally wrap just below the tip, so much the better. It is a common pratice to use thread wrapped in a spiral on that area to achieve a good fit of the top. The epoxy will penetrate the thread. No worry. ...................................... Toms right keep the threads but when I do this I also wrap the thread that is hidden under the tip very openly. this gives me space between the wraps so that the glue I use to secure the tip adheres to the blank. Allen glover Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
