Playing around again last night which here lately is dangerous.

Took some of my surf and boat rods and turned finger grooves into the grips. Looked pretty good and really improves the ability to grip the rod when wet or your hands are sweaty.

Really simple. Put the rod in the lathe and wrap some sanding screen on a piece of old blank or tubing. Diameter of the tubing and depth of the cut will determine the width of the gooves. Take your time and don't cut into the blank.

Now going to figure out how to knurl EVA grips, this ought to be interesting.

re the knurling. hows about open meshed wire and a bit of heat??
just warm it up and place it on the EVA may work or may not but
all you will loose is $2.00 worth of grip if it dont.

NO,NO,NO, don't put heat to them. Try this. While in the process of shaping your eva grips, take a 1/8 dia. nylon cord. Wrap it snug around the grips while it is on the mandrel. Now crank up the lathe and sandscreen it down to the tops of the cord buried in the grip. Now turn off the lathe. Take off the cord and what was depressed by the cord is now in relief. Try and lose your grip on this .
