Had you asked a couple years ago I could have told you for certain who made them. Now I am no longer sure of where they have them made. I believe more than one blank manufacturer is supplying both firms with blanks.

The one thing you need to remember, is that regardless of who is making them, they are not likely to be the same as the models made and sold by the manufacturer under its own name. As an example, if Loomis (or any maker) is making a particular blank for Cabelas (or other reseller), it is very likely that there is no comparable model in the actual Loomis line up. Most times these firms will have blanks made to their own requirements rather than just use the same models the manufacturer sells under its own name.

I have used a Cabelas blank to make a 3wt , 8'6'' fly rod and am pleased with it. It has the same firmness and fast tip as my Loomis 5wt rod. I am not sure who made it but it fishes great for our smaller Smoky Mountain native trout! Steve

I bought the older SL blanks and they sure feel like my Loomis GL4.

Say anybody no why they discontinued the GL4? I liked it. Did they just relabel them?
