16" foregrips

I had expressed problems I was having getting epoxy under the long foregrip in a previous posting on this site. I got two responses from Tom Kirkman and Tom of PetroChem. Both were very helpful. I followed their suggestions on how to install these long grips and the installation worked out great.

However, I made a slight change, I also beveled the I.D. hole at the bottom of the foregrip about a 1/4 of an inch. Because I had so many rods to do I experimented and found out the best choice for the bevel is a slight long angle, not a short one. I cut this bevel with a slender thin exacto knife. Was very easy to do. This bevel helped scoop up epoxy while the grip was being slid on (also twist the grip in a circular motion around the blank at the same time) and it will force epoxy between the blank and the grip. When the grip is in place, the void that was created by the bevel is filled with epoxy. So, no strength loss in the grip. I used U-40 Rod Bond, but I am sure other epoxies would work as well. Just thought someone might be able to use this information.

Hi Tony-

Glad it worked for you! Another way to do the bevel is to use a Dremel tool and a very small cone-shaped cutter. I use the metal type (carbide burr) instead of the mounted stone type. Makes that bevel faster than you can say "bevel"!!!
