The motor that came with this lathe is great for light work, but I think for drilling out reel seats and turning wood, a larger motor is desirable. I don't want to put a lot of money into it so I'm thinking about using the motor from a juice making machine we got a long time ago. You know the juice machines you see the 90 year old guy with bushy eyebrows on TV advertising as the next "fountain of youth" and the pounds will also melt off? Well we used it about 2 months and darn near went broke buying fruit and vegtables, then contracted carpal tunnell syndrome from all the peeling and well, I'm still about 40 pounds too heavy, which makes getting into a pair of chest waders....but, I digress. So there it sits under the sink now. It's on a solid base and has a strong motor. What materials or attachments do I need and how do I make this change. I also want to switch back to the smaller motor for winding, etc. Re: Upgrading Clemens/Renzetti lathe

In my opinion, the 1/10 HP Dayton, which is available from either firm, is the best all around motor for these lathes. It works well as a wrapping motor and yet has plenty of power to turn about anything that lathes like these are capable of turning anyway. Take a hard look at the 1/10 Dayton with the solid state foot control. It's a great little motor and wouldn't require any modifications on your part. ...................... I bought the 1/10HP from Renzetti and it will do all you could ask but is still fine for just thread wrapping. No trouble turning Hypalon or boring wood hosels and caps. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
