What blank is this?

Just fishing with this one!

I borrowed a rod from a friend today - it had no markings on. It was built as a saltwater rod, a glossy blue in colour, 9' 8wt, and what struck me was it was a very fast action and at the butt very thin.

Does this give anyone a clue as to what it might be? He didn't know, just picked it up from a custom builder with no details as to what the blank was

Alstar has made some glossy blue blanks in the past . So has St' Croix. Batson Enterprises makes some blue blanks, but not sure if they are glossy. CTS makes blue blanks. And probably some others. Would be hard to till who's it is unless you could provide some additional info. At least for me anyway. Others might be better at figuring it out.

Could it possibly be a Sage Xi2 with the logo remover or covered?

I don't think it was a sage. He has had it for about a year. I suspect that it is made from a reasonably high modulus carbon as the recovery rate seems to be very good. To me the give away was the thinness of the butt. Unfortunately I didn't have a tape with me, but I suspecthat it would be somewhere near .350"
