I am about to embark on my first attempt at crosswraps as a butt wrap. My concerns are: May I use all metalic threads or will that look to gaudy, would it be better to use a combination of metalic and regular thread? Is it OK to use size D thread as a butt wrap rather than size A which I normally use on my under wraps? I assume all regular threads should be NCP to prevent any bleed through. Any comments or suggestion are greaty appreciated.

Sure you can. Never limit yourself to what everyone else is doing. Think outside the box and don't be afraid to try new things. Some work, some don't but either way you learn.

I would use A thread for the wrap itself. You will find that the threads seems to become one after the finish coat is put on. I learned this from exparience. I recently did the American flag on a butt wrap and the fill in threads crossed on top of the rod. I was worried that this would show after the finish was put on but it didn't. The flags look like they were painted on a black painted background. I use NCP or metallic since you don't have to worry about color preserver. IMO, the correct application of color preserver takes much practice and it may leave you with less than desirable results. If you're not very familiar with c.p. then do yourself a favor and use metallic or ncp threads untill you have had some experience with c.p.. Also, do a search on color preserver to find some do's and don'ts. Might find some info on @#$%& also. Oh Yeah! Get a Butt Wrap Alignment Tool. Makes layouts much easier.
