I'm new to rod building. learning alot and having fun.. But I can't find a source for colored (ie) burnt, or dark cork. is there a special vendor or place i'm over looking? would appreciate any help or suggestions thank you.

Mark,the last place I saw burnt cork was on @#$%&.That should tell you something right there.Astronomically high bidding.There is none available for sale unless you can find someone with a stash of it.If you do find it,get all you can.
As for "colored"cork,you might check with some of theSponsors for colored Burl cork rings.I know besides the standard darker brown,you can get them in blue and red.I am not sure but I think green might be available.
If you want to use this for thin trim rings and inlay designs,forget it.It just doesn't work due to its composition.

It is possible from time to time to find some burnt cork on older rods from the seventies or so. I have found it on old ProStaff Zebco rods at the yard sales on a tip from one of these boards and have been able to get the grip off in good enough shape to salvage some small pieces for making inlays. Or maybe you could look in older tackle shops who might have sold rod building supplies over the years.

Not sure about the burnt but red, blue & green are available at Angler's Workshop.....
