I want to take moment and welcome you all to this new rod building site. There are no underlying motives - it is designed for the promotion and dissemination of rod building information to all interested in the rod building craft.

It is my hope that eventually the manufacturers and vendors who supply our craft will get involved. I would like this to be a place where you, the rod builder, can ask questions not only of other builders, but also of the very people who make the products you use. Likewise, I hope the manufacturers and vendors will take this opportunity to obtain feedback from their customers - the builders.

Please read the rules at the top of the board. They are few, but ironclad. I ask you to treat each other with respect and refrain from any posts that are insulting or inflammatory. I ask the manufacturers and vendors to refrain from mentioning prices on the board. (Pricing can be done by direct email to the builders and vice versa, if such a request is made. We do not want price wars and “@#$%&” taking place on the board.) Those who violate the rules will find their posts deleted. Three deletions and the responsible party will be barred from further participation on the board. This goes for everyone. I have named two individuals who I trust as board moderators. They understand the rules and what will fly, and what won’t. (And make no mistake - we know who you are.)

It is my hope that you will be able to get informative answers to your questions here. Please do not expect me to answer all questions - I neither have all the answers nor the time to reply to each one. Take advantage of the wide array of rod building experience and wisdom that can be gained by the widespread participation of all.

Also keep in mind that you can alter the layout of this board to suit your own tastes. Pay attention to the different view types you can obtain by clicking on the “threads” versus “collapse threads” and “flat view” versus “column view” commands found at the top of the message board.

Yes, but only within the regular issues of the magazine. It will be August before I can get something in RodMaker. But don't worry, the word will spread quickly. This will be a busy place within a couple weeks.

Congratulations Tom on the new site. I am certain you will keep it on the level deserving for custom rodbuilders for exchange of information and product, ideas, and learning.


I look forward to participation and sponsorship, and am willing to bet that this will be the best available forum for rodbuilders on the internet. Will do my best to get the message out, and for you rodbuilders in Canada (or anywhere, for that matter) I am told by Tom that this is a site for rodbuilders regardless of location or skill level.
So jump in and participate, ask questions, provide your ideas.

I believe that in rodbuilding, no one has ALL the answers, and there is not any one particular direction or way to do things and it's good to hear about who/how custom rodbuilders are projecting the craft.

Also am looking forward to manufacturers and their representatives presenting product knowledge and hopefully gleaning from the ideas being presented. We'll all have lots to gain from purposeful participation and commeraderie.
