Angler's Workshop blanks...

Hello guys --

I'm new to rod building and am interested in building a 2 wgt. rod. I was hoping to keep the cost down on my first attempt and really like the sounds of the Superfine FullFlex blank from Orvis ( the one used in their one ounce set-up).

I was also reading about the Angler's Workshop blanks but have not heard anything about them other than what they say on their own web-site. The blank I'm interested in is the IM6 Fly Blank Length: 6'-6''.

Anyone have any experience or wisdom to pass on about these blanks? Are they decent, good, poor?

Thanks in advance.

-Jeff

Jeff, I use alot of Anglers blanks. They offer a very well thought out series of blanks, and all that I have used have proved to be excellent. I think you will find that the Angler's 2 wt. IM6 will be quite the little cannon ! Faster then the Orvis Full Flex. If cost will be an issue, and you perfer a powerful, yet slower action rod, consider the Lamiglas fiber glass multi-piece fly rods. I always grab my Lamy If I am after brush creek natives. The 6'6" 3 wt.-3 pc. is an absolute joy to cast, and puts plenty of fight into even the smallest Tiddler..... and may just fit into your glove box !
Take Care.....B. Meiser

Thanks Meiser --

One more question -- The Angler's Workshop says that the blank in question (IM6) has a moderate action.

But you mentioned that it would be quite the little cannon...do their rating run on the fast side or are you just comparing that to the Full Flex's slow action.

I am not looking for a fast rod at all...in fact I hope to have a slow to moderate rod for the small creeks around my area. Mainly for fishing very small nymphs and drys that I really don't need to shoot far -- Just real quite like :)

Thanks
Jeff

From the specification, I believe that Anglers workshop blanks are Talon private label blanks. IMHO Talon has one the better manufacturer process and facility in the industry. I am very happy with their blanks. To get their blank and be called Anglers workshop is totally OK with me. Especially it is cheaper.

Good fishing (catching) <*)))))))><{

Hi, The blanks from angler's workshop are made by a well known rod manufacture in Woodland Washington, not far from Anglers Workshop. I have purchached a few blanks and was quite satisfied with the finished product. Bear in mind I never used there product to build a fly rod
Good luck Bob

Jeff......Yes, I would say that the Orvis Full Flex is just what it says : a very progressive, classic full flex taper. The particular Anglers IM6 blank you spoke of will be a bit faster. For such a small rod, I was impressed with it's ability to load quickly, and tighten the loop. The Orvis will have a slower, more open loop presentation.
I have always found Angler's to be very helpful and honest about their product lines. Check with them about their return policy, you may be able to check out the actions of both, then you decide which blank best suites your needs.
We all seem to have different takes on what "word" best describes a rods action, and which action best suites our applications........part of the mystic of fly rods !

Whichever of the rod blanks that you choose, you will find Anglers Workshop as a reputable supplier, with a dedicated ownership and staff.
