That's a tip-into-butt ferrule. It relies on two sections with very little if any taper, for the areas that constitute the ferrule. Once a little wear occurs, however, a smaller diameter finds itself going into a larger area. Slop developes, the ferrule splits/cracks and soon fails. These type ferrules are usually found on the less expensive rods. I do want to mention that for all their faults, tip-into-butt ferrules are the most popular type ferrule today and are found on most commercially made rods built for the mass market. They do a reasonably good job for the masses. Most custom rod builders, however, prefer a tip-over-butt or spigot/plug type ferrule. These are types found on most of the better blanks today. ............... Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
