There is post below concerning an Avid 6'6" ultra-light that sparked a discussion that interests me a great deal. On ultra-light spinning rods, in order to get the guide height that is needed on the stripper guide you have to use a ring size that is quite large. A while back I got some advise from Ralph O'Quinn, he told me that he used size 10 guide as the stripper on his ultra-lights and that his testing indicated that this size was optimum for casting. The guide he used was a Fuji match guide. Angler's world not longer imports these guides although Fuji still makes them. I was able to get some of these with a 12 ring from Eric Garza, who I believe gets them from Hopkins and Hollaway. I think that a 20 or 25 ring is too large a guide for a small reel like the Quantum micros. I would be interested in knowing how others feel on this issue. Why doesn't anyone in the US carry the match guides? Jim Re: Guide size and height

Jim demand sets the market,in this case I assume Anglers World feels there is not enough demand to make it worth while to import them,it is a constant ongoing problem as the distributors will be only to glad to tell you.You might try asking if any of the sponsors happen to have some remaining in stock. We have the BMYLG in sizes 10, 7, 6, 5, & 4.5 These guides are very similar to the match type guides. Bob McKamey -- Custom Tackle Supply Re: Altenkirch?

I have seen these rods. Wondered where they got those guides. The URL is www.altenkirch.com but there is no photo of the high frame guides. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
