A better butt wrap?

I just thought I'd share a way I just started winding the thread for my butt wraps. Usually I cut a length of thread tape it to the blank wrap up then back down. Sometimes I'd fall short and have to redo the wrap or I'd have way too much and that is just wasting thread. So I now cup the spool in my hand and wrap up the ro then back down. I can control the tension of the thread and I always have the right length of thread. Never too much and never not enough. I just thought I share this with some people who have run into the same problem I did. Re: A better butt wrap?

I do it on my Clemens Lathe. The spool is on the thread holder. I position it at the end of the butt wrap that I am wrapping towards and then use my finger for fine control of the thread as it goes up or down the wrap. The tensioner keeps a constant tension on the wrap. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
