Hello again ! I have to agree with Tony and every body else this site rocks!! Many sites are using this as a model to straighten out chaotic message boards. Hats off to Tom and all the folks Who help out and take time away from there business to help casual builders Like myself to increase my skills !! Many thanks. Im ready to start wrapping my single foot fuji sics and have a few questions. 1) The guides look great! even the feet are curved which I can see is a real plus on fujis' quality, Do I need to do any more prep work on the feet other mpretty than smoothing the edges? 2) I hate to ask but, all the flyrods Ive built have only standard spacing which puts the stripper too far away for me to use in comfort(I have since added a stripper closer to the grip on all three rods) What is a good place to start the guide spacing or a standard system that can be modified! What I have for guides based on many of your recomondations and from the sponser I purchased from is 12,1010,8,7,66666666,tip The rod is 3pc 8'9" fast action. I now understand where to put the stripper but am lost on the rest. I know that one should cast and adjust to fine tune but I need a method to start from. and I dont have one ! Many thanks Happy wrapping! "John" Re: fuji single foot guide placement on 8'9" 4wt

Probably get different opinions on grinding fuji feet. Fuji feet are very smooth and are extremely hard to grind or file. But the taper is a bit steep for my taste. You will find that they are very hard to wrap with the taper that comes from the factory because they just squirt out from under the first few wraps of nylon like a watermelon seed. I like to grind the top of the guide so that the taper is flatter and the surface is a little rougher to make them stay in the wrap. However if you can figure out a way to hold them and wrap them, then they will work okay pretty much as they come out of the box. The edge is just a little thick, so you have to space the thread and wrap up the guide a ways and then slide the thread back to the end tightly. I prefer to grind them. I would try a 8'9" rod with either 9 or 10 guides using a single stripper and 10 or 11 with the double stripper 3.5" apart. ( I now just count the double stripper setup as 1 guide when I am counting). I am not a professional nor do I have to answer to anybody if the rod does not work, so check out any advise I give before you try it. I just think that fewer guides (within reason) is better than more guides. I would try real hard to do it with 9 guides with a single stripper and 10 with a double. If you put the stripper closer to the rod butt than normal, then you might need 1 more guide. Go the VFS rodbuilding section and look at his spacing charts. They are for snake guides, but will get you started. maybe drop out 1 guide and work out the new spacing proportianately. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
