I heard a rumor today from someone in the Woodland area that Gary Loomis has started manufacturing rods or blanks again under a different name. Sounds a little far fetched to me but have any of you heard anything about this?

ATC (Advanced Tubular Composites) is being headed by Gary's brother, Bobby, and has recently acquired the remnants of the Shikari operation in Oklahoma. They had previously acquired the machinery from the Cascade operation in Washington State. They say that they will maintain a plant in Washington and are setting up two additional plants overseas (Orient). ATC says they will be making all sorts of carbon fiber tubing, including fishing rods, golf shafts, sail masts, etc. - anything in tubes and sports oriented.

Thanks Tom, that must be where the rumor originated.

Quite a few years ago. He sold Loomis to Shimano. Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: Gary Loomis

The golf shaft business was a fiasco for Loomis. When they lost some major accounts the investors wanted their money back. Gary had the option of mortaging the company in order to repay them, or selling the company and having enough money to pay back the investors and retire quite well off. So he did the latter. He has remained with G. Loomis, Inc. as a consultant and spokesperson.
