I scanned a piece of thin lam natural abalone shell at 600 dpi resolution, added color via paintshop Pro and printed on white vinyl matte decal paper from Swampland. Going to try it on Holo decal paper next

Try not adding any color - just go natural with the original material and I think you'll be shocked at the realism.
