made a new thread carriage. Thanks Bob and Barry for the tip on 'music wire'. the Ace hrdwr had some in multiple guages for real cheap. The .036 seems to alow the greatest range of motion and thus takes up the most slack when backing up the rod. I found one other use for it as well. I use a little bead on my pull threads and I was always loosing them. I cut a 1/4" piece and glued it into the hole where the loop goes through the bead. Now, I just drop it near the black knob to the right of the base and it finds its way to one of the rare earth magnets I glued there. I have since drilled a hole in the end of my burnishing tool and inserted a 1.5 inch piece for the same purpose.

Great Job Steve! What kind of glides are you using under the carriage, I'm using 80/20 Track also and making a working thread carriage has been a goal. any tips

Barry,
The carriage is one of the 8020 linear motion bearing profiles. If you buy the profile and the bearing material (made from UHMWPE) you can make one real easy and cheap. Google 8020 garage sale and you'll know where to go. In my carriage, I have the bearing material in all three sides. It slides surprisingly easy. Since it doesn't roll, I feel that it gives me more control. The 'traveller knob' is made of a rod support wheel w/o-ring, 1/4 bolt w/knob, and a 2" long bronze bushing inserted into the carriage. The wheel goes down into one of the slots in the bed.
