Finally got a chance to spend some time in the shop and had some fun making some foam core handles. The 2 black ones are sleeved in carbon fiber, the colored handles are dyed fiberglass sleeves.

This is very cool. How do you die the sleeves? Is that something you came up with or is this in a Rodmaker issue I've missed?

Phil - I tried several different paints to saturate the fiberglass sleeves, all seemed to work just fine. I used testors paint, another model paint used on plastic R/C car bodies and even tried a waterbased auto paint. I added Pearl-X to some to get a bit of a sparkle. First I cut the sleeve to size, then brushed on the paint in a very heavy coat and rolled the sleeve on a pice of wax paper to ensure full saturation, it basically collapses on itself and becomes flat. I then open it back up and place it on a mandrel to dry. Once the paont dries it is a bit stiff but loosens up once you start to work with it.

Hope that helps,
Rich

Very cool. When I finally get back to building rods this will be very cool to try. Thanks.
