I received some dyed black ash burl from Steve at Reelseatblanks.com. The picture doesn't do the grips justice, the grain was so nice that I didn't have the heart to segment it. The reel seat is segmented to imitate a brick wall.

Mark is not kidding...I saw this grip at a gathering in Iowa last month, and the grain & colors are just fabulous! So much so that I bought a square and a lathe to try for myself.
Of course I will be in much need of practice before the chisels touch this piece!
Beautiful work Mark

Guys thanks for the kind words. The pictures color is a little washed out, the color of the burl is very impressive and the pictures don't do this grip justice. The rod was built for Steve at reelseatblanks.com, I hope that he approves of the build. Thanks again Mark.
