HAve you actually used this tensioner with the Madeira spools? I've tried to, and the problem I had was the way teh thread is wound on teh spool, at teh ends - the thread will slip off and knot up & you will end up having to cut a lot of thread off. Better to Xfer Madeira to a regular spool if you plan on using it for guides, imo.

Nice set up.

Billy, I have used it on the Madeira spools for wrapping guides. I use 1.25" washers on each end of the spool, followed by the grey plastic do-hickeys that come on the spools, followed by a nylon washer. This helps prevent the Polyneon from falling off the spool ends. As you note, re-winding the Polyneon to an empty spool completely eliminates the problem.

Ah, you put the plastic things (I thought they were spool stander uppers) at the ends & that prevents it. Good idea. That's something they started doing last year, prior to that they put the thread on different sized cardboard "bobbins", as the new plastic thingy's don't fit on all my old spools.

What I had to do with the Clemens is find the tiny Allen Wrench and loosen up the threaded bolt which the tension device was on, and move it so teh wide spool fit on teh tensioner. Was a real hassle, but it became a non-issue once I lost like a1/4 of the spool after it dug in and slipped off teh end. After that it was xferred to regular spools. I no longer use it for guide wraps though, as I have to use CP which I do not like doing on guides.

I'll send you a couple of photos that show a little more of how the Madeira spools are set up (by e-mail).
