I overbore all my wood grips - that's a 3/4 inch diameter rod running down the length of that grip. I mount a foam arbor on the blank and seat the grip on that. Keeps the weight near that of regular cork.
The woods are, from left to right - Marblewood, macassar ebony, paduak, macassar ebony, zebra wood, and then the same repeated back out to the other end.

That really is one sharp grip. I can't say that I've ever seen anything in wood quite as stunning

I have done this on several grips but stopped short of breaking through the front end.How are you finishing off the exposed end of the grip once mounted? Epoxy ramp?
