A terrible photo of Bernie Cohen's grip inlays. You have to see these up close to really appreciate them

Ken, I've seen Bernie’s grips up close. You're right the photos don't do them justice, they look even better up close. The time and effort that is put into each grip is unbelievable.

Bernie's work is absolutely gorgeous. HE's also a great guy, and his attitude towards building and life in general gave me the inspiration to start The NERBs. At 80 some odd years, and undergoing his second hip replacement surgery in October (he wore the first one out), 3 months later he's attending rod building gatherings. Bernie will always be #1 in my book.

I've seen it all up close too at a couple old Rodcrafter seminars...and I seem to recall a 3 dimensional mermaid foregrip that put a smile to my face....did Bernie start this inlay thing with foam? (history buff question) Who else out there is doing these inlays?...not too many from my recent searches other than Billy and Harv's work ( I may be wrong). EVA work, the inticate inlays, may not be to everyones liking, but if you pair it with some of the patterns that the current woodworkers are doing on a handle ( Mark B and Ray J, to name two) you never know what shows up on a grip next. The skills and ideas started with with someone quite some time ago...they can only get better.

WOW i never would have put Bernie at that age, he is one heck of a person and has not problem sharing his wealth of info with anyone just for the asking..And yes his work is very impressive...I actually started an inlay and got side tracked, but will hopefully get back into it..

I have seen a few guys who have done inlays. HAnk Weinman in NJ, teh guy who did a demo at that Vernon Ct seminar we were both at, he had a red shark. CArlos Serrales who e-mailed me a while back when I was working and lost his e-mail addy, he's extemely talented. Stan McClean has done several. Joe Emig did at least one that I know of. There are definitely a lot more than that, but none of them post pics or send them to teh magazines.
