Look closely and you will see some old "nubs". What is missing from this tip? The aftco roller guide fits perfectly on it. What gives?

I am not understanding your reference to "nubs" or what is missing. What I see is a classic example of galvanic corrosion of metal parts due to exposure to salt water. This will occur when more than one metal is exposed to an electrolite and a current is set up causing corrosion. If what I am seeing is actually green in color copper is present in either one of the parts or a plating. If you simply want to clean it up apply some Tobasco Sauce on a paper towell and let soak for five or ten minutes then wash off with water. No Fooling It Chelates Copper Oxides.

Bill...I am actually referring to the old "weld" spots. Looks like the original tip had some braces on it and they must've snapped off.
I'll try to tobasco trick. May add a little spice to this project.
