After looking at it again,,It was stepped on. The front and rear grips were holding the blank off the floor just enough to snap it when stepped on.

That's as awful clean looking break. The bottommost piece almost looks as if there was some heat involved due to that curled up edge, but that could just be the picture. My guess is that since the cut looks so clean at the edge, something else hit the blank - as opposed to the blank hitting something else. That's about as far as my guess goes since I can't think of anything that someone would bring along on a fishing trip that would hit a rod butt so hard as to cut through it. Unless of course you were on a trip that required a walk throught a jungle somewhere and a guide got a bit careless with his machete.....

First, it's not the tip. I would have to say either a door a stepped on.

Freeling croakers with extra rods in holders - all were involved in fish recovery when a Jack Crevaille decided to take the last free swiming croaker as hostage while the guys were involved with other fish! Shame Shame!

The good news, is that this rod would be very easy to repair.
Clean the wraps off the ends of the repair up to the split grip. Find a piece of blank that would fit nicely on both sides of the break and another on the inside of the break. Glue it all together, rewrap the ends of the cork, reletter, finish and you would be good to go.
Take care
Roger
