This is my first Abalone/Shell inlay. A special thanks goes out to Kevin Knox. He held my hand throughout the process and gave me the courage to pursue. I attached silver leaf to the rod first and then put on two coats of finish over the silver leaf. The Abalone Striper and the 2 Abalone trim bands were attached next. Last step was to add 5 or 6 coats of finish. Noticed I had put on a couple of coats of finish on top of a bug, so I had to sand the bug off and add two more coats of finish. It really bugged me! Anyway thank you Kevin!!!!!

Bob,
You are very welcome. I absolutely love the work. You should be very proud of it! I am here if you need more help! But, from the looks of it, you have the process down patt!!!!

Thanks Mike. . . I found a fellow who can cut the shell with a laser. He can cut any design imaginable. . . for a price! Kevin thinks I could have cut it with scissors. He's never seen me use scissors! LOL

This is very cool. I have never seen anything quite like this before. So that is actually a shell? Nice job!

Yes Mike, that's what it is. You're from one of my favorite parts of the country. . . Big Sky Country. An Abalone Trout would look great on a fly rod. Thanks for the comment.
