Gerry, if you have seen a mallee bush/tree you would not think such a beautiful wood could come from it.

Nice work Gerry. I like your choice in Aussie wood. It is, as Myles said, an ugly tree but the finished product is beautiful.

Thanks. Andy talked me into trying it. The reel seat will also be mallee. It's beautiful wood and pretty easy to work, even for a beginner like me.

Brown Mallee is a very nice wood. So is Coolibah Burl. I'm not into wood though, but I have a piece of both and they look very sharp. Andy's cork looks lik eit was made for Brown Mallee - Gerry that's sweet!

Thanks everyone. I was more than a little nervous about doing this because the wood is so much harder than the cork, but it wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it might be. The reel seat will also have a Brown Mallee insert.

Gerry try Purple Heart Mulga or Tasmanian Pink Myrtle next. They are truely beautiful.
