I wanted a contoured grip without a traditional reelseat but I wanted to be able to change the reel easily. The only real problem I had was with the top coat of Spar Helmsmann, you can see a dark patch at the rear of the grip where I put it on a bit to heavy. Oh well, better next time.

Plate seats are very popular with surf fishermen. Teh only gripe is that they do not securly hold reels tight, and after use they can pop open. I think to secure the reel foot better, they wrap teh reel foot with electrical tape, dont' quote me on that. nice job on teh handle/.

Thanks Billy. Thanks for the tip for the reel feet, I'll try some shrink tubing on them. At the worst I'll just cutt off the plate seat and wrap the reel on, But I think this will work out.

Very nice. How much do the plate seats weigh? Thanks.

I don't think you'll have any trouble with the plate seat on anything but the very heaviest rods. I've used those seats for nearly 30 years and never had any pop open.
