I think you did a hell of a good job on the black widow wrap. You aren't schmoozing your boss are you?

Maybe if you tried a roller of some kind to burnish after packing??????? Some builders have suggested using a cheese cutter (the one with the roller) and removing the wire.

Your finish is great looking. As far as the packing goes I find it difficult to properly pack when using large bands of thread. I usually go 2 or 3 at the most.

Jan that looks pretty bloody good to me. I also found this one a little hard to pack and found I was laying the thread with too much tension. The last one I did, I backed off quite a bit and found it went together better. Trial and error mate! That finish looks great.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments, I appreciate it. Mark, its taken me 2 yrs to get my boss to let me build him a rod as he is very particular about what he uses so no schmoozing there, lol, just satisfaction that I know he is using a better snapper rod than he has already Smile. I work in a tackle store and all the staff have one of my rods now which I'm happy about.
Thanks for the tip Mark as I realise now that I was laying the thread with too much tension which makes sense as to why it was hard to close over. I'll give it another go and back off a bit. Cheers for the tip. I use the epoxy I get from Wilsons and its easy to work with.
kind regards, Jan.

Jan,
I have had a look at your Redback. Not the same as mine but that doesn't matter. The issue you are having with packing the thread is because you are running one thread at a time and this will always (especially with metallic) cause problems. Run in bands of threads this will help the packing problem. If you have a close look at mine thats what I do.

Ross.

G'day Ross, thanks for tip. I made sure that I mentioned it was one of your signature wraps that I got the inspiration to do in the latest article I did for "Go Fishing". I can't remember if I gave your site a plug or not but hopefully I did Smile .
Cheers, Jan.
