Left Hand casting reel grip (no switching hands between casting and reeling). Getting the sleeve to shape properly was a bear but I eventually got it.

It feels real good. The hands fit the grips nicely. Once I get the rest of it put together I'll take it out and see how it feels while casting. With any luck I'll get to see how it feels when fighting a fish too:)

Nice job!

Bet there were some sticky finger moments there getting that sleeve the way you wanted it.

Yup, lots of sticky fingers, still cleaning epoxy out from under the fingernails. I ended up doing the "glue ups" in stages; folding under, let set, trim, glue up the next flap, let set, trim, re-ream, fit to blank, glue up, lots of tucking and poking, real thin coat of epoxy on all edges, and then a final coat. Every once in a while I'd reverse the dryer to keep the rotation from piling up epoxy in the nooks and crannys. It's real pretty though!

The blank is a Sevier 7'6" two piece MH tiger eye.

Jim. I did a similar concept a few years back in a wood grip. I found using a normal left hand casting reel had your thumb almost reaching back for the thumbar release and spool, however if you can get hold of one of the Daiwa TD-S , X or Z left hand models with the thumb bar release on the side plate and forward set spool, you will absolutely love it. I had a couple of outfits set up the same and loved them, only trouble was after a couple of seasons of the right arm casting and working the lures, and the left hand only winding the handle a painful bout of tennis elbow set in. Good luck, Cheers Paul.

Most of my rod are spinning reels where the right hand does all the casting and the left hand turns the handle. I've only got three rods with casting reels; 1 right hand and two left hand. I just don't like the right hand reel. The leftys work better for me and I've grown accustomed to pressing the release bar with the thumbs big knuckle. I will look at the Daiwa though... could mean a new rod is needed! Smile
