A prototype of a grip that I've been working on. It's a Native American Design. It still needs work, the glue lines are driving me crazy so I never put finish on the grip. It's a first attempt so I hope it gets better as I go.

I have several old Navajo rugs and while they don't show glue lines the patterns and weaves certainly aren't perfect. The overall effect however is quite pleasant.
I think your grip may be in that same category. The pattern and color choices make it stand out regardless of glue lines which probably can't be completely eliminated due to wood grain and color variations. I have no problem giving this grip high marks.

Hi Mark
I love the design, the only thing I would have done different is, I would added somthing in teal with black and white border in the center, or some thing else to break it up a lttle, thanks for posting it got my brain working for my wrap on my trolling rod.
Best Regards Mark Crouse

I thouhgt it was goign to look different when sanded. Expected a little more curvature as it wrapped around. Definitely outside the box and a base for you to continue to expand on teh design. Nice.

I have no doubt that you'll figure out how to get rid of the glue lines. But, I think Stan is on to something here. Instead of hiding the glue lines, what would it look like if you mixed some pigment into the glue when you glued up the segments? I know that Russ Gooding at Goldenwitch sells this exact type of pigment for this purpose. Personally, while this grip is amazing, I think more visible glue lines might make it even better.

Once again, out of the box and a beauty as well. I agree with Andrew and Stan about the glue lines. It may well add another dimension.

Mark your work is just freaking out of sight, I too agree with Stan G and Andrew W. No doubt about getting better, one of the best IMHO. Congrats.

Guy's thanks for the encouragement. I've got a couple of ideas for the next attempt and I think Mark C. is right, maybe something in the middle of the blanket. I think I can make the lines a little tighter with a better sanding technique. I'll post the results Thanks Mark B.

One alternative is to use a darker background instead of the blond. Whether solid or alternating bands of subtly contrasting tones the darker tone will lessen the effect of the glue lines.
