Shamelessly ripped this handle design off the cover of RM several years ago. When I look around my shop, I have no idea what I would be building if I didn't subscribe to The Magazine.
Stabilized Buckeye Burl from Andy Dear on a GUSA DHX 9' #5 4-piece from Custom Tackle Supply. Now that we have the CC system this rod probably rates out around 6.5 or 7. But it's a great chuck and duck heavy nymphing rod and I still love fishing with it.
If you've never fished Arkansas in the Fall, this is what you are missing. This is a very, very average fish for the Little Red River but gorgeous to me nonetheless. Bob McK and others who know me well will probably recognize the little pink deadly in this one's jaws.

Man, now is the time in Arkansas...Terry can tell you. Drive on out! I know Montana has beautiful country and great fishing, but there is something to be said for year round access to HUGE trout in 200+ miles of public river access. It's pretty wild when you consider NOT seeing a 30" fish on every trip more of an anomaly than seeing more than one.
Some people don't think tailwaters are as scenic. Some people don't like that gasoline motors are allowed on the rivers. Some people don't like that you may be fishing next to someone fishing live bait or powerbait. I don't care - there are more fish per river mile here than anywhere I've ever seen and the water is so full of bugs it's like Chunky stew.
If you have never fished the White, Norfork, and Little Red you are missing something. You really have to see it to believe it.
