An Elliptical in the rough state. They start off looking very ugly. The blank is Padauk (supplied by ReelSeatBlanks.com), Maple and Dyed Black Veneer.

Good illustration for those who haven't tried inlay work on grips. It also gives good insight into the the superb craftsmanship you have developed. The reward of seeing the final product produced from the assembled pieces of wood is always very satisfying for me.

Thanks guys. It's hard to imagine that a piece this ugly can turn out so well. It's just fun to show how square lines turn into rounded. The wood came from a sponsor here on the board ReelSeatBlanks.com, the wood was very nice to work and has a color that's very deep, the wood was clear (no knots) as well. It's not stabilized, but I hope to get my hands on some of the stabilized stuff. If this is any indication of what they have, the stabilized wood should be very nice.
