Started this rod three months ago but left underway before I could finish. Murphy's law kicked my behind on this one, if it could go wrong it pretty much did. The gold threads loosened up in the wrap, something caused hundreds of tiny fisheyes in two of the coats of epoxy on the buttwrap, put the micro-sol on before the epoxy was fully cured and it ate through the epoxy, figured out the hard way that the peel and stick striped bass decal from Merrick didn't have a removable backing as the laser cut ones do. (I kept trying to pull the backing off but the fish would come off with it). Anyway, lots of lessons learned and the end result still looks good. The colors started off as a joke since he broke the last rod I sent him, but turned out very nice.

Beautiful job. Sometimes we learn more from hard ones than the easy ones. When I first started, I was doing an all metallic wrap and I put one guide wrap on at least 20 times before I got it right. It was just what I need though because I discovered that I had a bad technique that would cause the thread to be loose. Once I discovered that, it was not so bad. I think your efforts were well worth it however because that is a handsome rod.I really like the colors too.

Phil I really like your colour combo. The gold, purple and Teal look great together. The holo thread between patterns sets it off.

Phil, this rod is ideal for a belated Christmas gift. Overall, very nice rod, bright, clean and befitting for the season.

Good choice and blend of colours. You may have persuaded me to try some holographic thread.

Thanks all for the kind words. The colors came about as a way to match the holographic frames and rings on the guides and the reel seats. To put it nicely, the holographic coming around as a way of me calling him gay for breaking the last rod by high sticking (if you can't give your brother in law a hard time who can ya?). Plus me and Dad being Vikings fans (purple) and him being an Eagles fan (green albeit different shade) didn't hurt. Funny how you come up with things sometimes.
