Here's a rod I just finished for the bro-in-law for xmas. 8 foot batson rated for 25lb. line and 4 oz.'s. Will be paired with a Daiwa Sealine reel, hence the black and gold theme. Very simple rod, but I think it turned out pretty classy looking. Also, first rod using only TM Lite. Turned out crystal clear and not a bubble in sight.

What is the size of the bumper and the distance from the first guide? Could you feed a line through and take another picture for us? Thanks

Bumper is actually a 12, should've/could've been a 10 but ran out of them. The rod has already been delivered so I don't have access to it. Bumper is approximatly 6 inches from the first guide and 4 inches from the second (first 180).

Jeff, that's a nice rod. Can you explain why your bumper is not mid-way between the stripper and first 180? Secondly, why didn't you use the same size for all the running guides? Thanks.

Not really a bumper guide. It will carry some side load at that location. Should still work however.

I specifically placed the "bumper" guide where it is. During static deflection testing, when the guide was exactly between the two guides, and the guides were just taped on, when I put a lot of load on the blank the bumper wanted to twist. When I moved it forward an inch or two I got no movement at all. Under no load the line sits at about 5 O'clock on the bumper ring, blank under heavy load the line sits at 7 O'clock. I felt this worked the best for this rod and set up. Am I missing something other than the guide being a little too large ?

Jeff, what you experianced is normal with teh bumper guide. Quite a few people have run into the same exact problem, and have fixed it by moving that guide up a drop. Are thos eIGHNSG guides? Nice job on teh rod, as usual

Hi Billy, Thanks for the comment.

If I remember correctly, I used Pac Bay GTHG Hialoy's on that rod. Yeah, I just felt that by placing the bumper where it got the least amount of torsion was a better move than to just use a ruler, IMO. It's amazing how much a guide can tell when under stress about where it would "like" to be located.

Jeff, sorry I still don't understand your explanation. I have never experienced this in my last two rods, both are 2 pc, 6'6" bass rods line weight 8-14 lb. What's your distance between the stripper and first 180? What I did was to place the bumper at about 95 degrees and mid way between stripper and first 180. My tests did not show any load on the bumper.

No, if the first two guides are properly located in relation to each other you won't have any side load on the bumper guide. It's something a lot of people miss but it won't keep your rod from working. It's not the Simple Spiral but it is still a spiral wrap and should work fine.
