The finish is, don't laugh flexcoat. I know it is not very durable, but if it is worn, it can be easily reapplied. This is my second rod finished with fexcoat. The first one I have used pretty badly for more than one year now without problems.
I was also surprized by the kinky look of the mangrove. I have randomly picked a mangrove log. After cutting it it showed its beauty. BUT it is very tool unfriendly. By turning these bits I had to resharpen my HSS tool twice.
