You have a couple things going on here. First, those wraps over the foot edge were never tight against one another to begin with. The application of finish and a few flexes makes this more obvious to the naked eye.


Not much you can do now. It'll work okay. At some point you might decide to remove, taper the foot end shallower and rewrap, but in the meantime, it'll still be functional. By the way, this is a common trait of commercially made rods with very thick guide feet. Look at some the next time you're in a fishing tackle shop or sporting goods store.
