here is a top side and bottom view showing the overall butt end of the rod. The grip and butt cap are stabilized maple burl and burl cork.

Ray, that's a classic. This is a good example of what a custom built rod should be, one that cannot be mass produced. I would prefer if you had used handpicked flawless, unbleached natural cork instead of burl.

Do you mind sharing how long it took to do the engraving on this rod? Is is something which takes 5 or 6 hours, 3 weeks?

A lot of factors come into play such as material, curvature, complexity etc.
I can do job like this in little over a week if I don't take too many breaks to refill my tea glass. I didn't time it but I probably have about 50 hours in this engraving.
