Here's a T-LNSG 16guide on rod I built for someone and has been using it for 3 weeks. I built teh rod (GUSA SW70MH) as light as posible so the rod performed to the highest potential possible. lol. I didn't even use underwraps, which I really wish I did after seeing this.
In addition to replacing this guide, I had to place an 8" thread wrp in front ofteh forgrip as the finish & pain were already worn off the blank from cranking in hundreds of fish with the rod resting on a stainless steel railing.

What was the explanation for how it happened?

Someone's butt. They sat on it after drinking 9 hours worth of beers. That's waht happens with a boat of 60 people.

Why an underwrap? Would it have saved the blank?

When te guy sat on teh rod and teh guide got bent like that, all teh finish scraped off and the graphite seemed to be damaged or bruised. It takes a lot to bend a Titanium guide to that degree, having that layer of thread would have prevented teh guide foot from scraping off teh finish...whether the blank was in fact damaged I can't tell, but with an underwrap I would have felt a little "safer". Whether it would ahve actually prevented blank damage, realistically I doubt it, but I would have felt better not seeing the blank.

Im sure that left a nice tatoo on the beer gussler's rear. That's why I steer clear of party boats if possible. To many people in to small of a space. Then involve alcohol and stuff either breaks or winds up dissapering. It is a shame to see things like that happen to your hard work.

CLiff, funny you should mention the guide feet slipping out. THis is the last rod I am using LNSG's (or BLNAG's) on, as this is not the first time this guide style has had a guide foot slip out. I've had 2 of them slip, another friend had one, and now this one. Mt 2 happened wher eI rested teh rod on teh rail and picked it up, hitting the stripper guide on th rai. With a longer foot, the guide frame would have bent and I would have just bent it back into place. With te short feet on these guides I had to find tape and tape teh guide foot to teh rod tin order to finish fishing it. MN guides ar ePERFECT fo rme, but not available in Titanium. T-NSG's are ideal, but teh guide frame is beefy and the feet larger than neccesary. I have no choice but to use these though.
