This is a Fluke (Flounder for those in the South) rof for myself. I went all out using the following Matagi components: painted red reel seat, silver pipe insert, silver front of reel seat extender, winding check in front of foregrip, 2 winding checks between split grip, adn another one in between the back grip and butt cap. I picked through and used the best cork I had, which still stinks, lol.
Guides are TLNSG size 8 stripper, follwed by 10 Fuji T-LDBSG size 4's. Tip top is a Fuji plastic tip with a SIC ring..ULST 4.5-2mm.
Blank is a GUSA Advantage 7MH, which is a bit lighter & crisper than the 703DHX, should be a fun rod to catch fish on next week.

Sweet rod Billy - I take it that the silver pipe insert and reel seat extension are arbored to the blank, and the reelseat mounts directly to the inserts? That Matagi stuff is cool, I have to look into it more....

The silver pipe has a 15mmOD, which fits perfectly in all of Matagi's size 16 ECS reel seats. Glue that into the reel seat, then attach with arbors of your choice. I left a little bit of the pipe protruding from the front of the seat so the Silver wouldn't need an additional arbor. I screwed up and cut the reel seat down before the HP show, so the accompanying Silver locking nut didn't fit.

[ link ] Here are the components I used: teh winding checks between the split: HTWC-B. TIGHTEN NUT SET is where I got the extension piece from. The ring not pictured near teh butt cap is the FBC-VR, only comes in one size. I turned down the cork to fit this. The front Winding check is a Fuji check. The Silver pipe is the ECS-AP

Billy I like the look of the rod. It looks like it would work great as a bass rod as well. I'm curious how well the 4mm eyes will work out for you, keep us posted if you would do it again. MB

MArk, I have the 4.5's on a Spinning rod I've used abotu 6 times with 10# Fireline, and I have no complaints whatsoever. This rod will not see much casting at all, so I won't have any issues except for knot clearance if/when I reel in a fish (braid tied to 3' Mono leader). IN my shop tests, everything worked just fine. This Winter I'll end up re=wrapping a few of my rods which I use often with these smaller guides.

Great work all round Billy. I like the look and the colours of the wrap. Without trying to go to overboard on their components, the Matagi line is great. The current one I'm building has the graphite carbon insert on the ECS16 seat in Red and black marble with gold trim. Really nice "bling" factor.

The Rod is 5oz. With the rod & reel+line 13.9oz. Obviously there is added weight with the 2 butt wraps + epoxy and all the aluminum winding checks, but for what I do (Fluke with 1-2oz jigs) I an live with it.
