No cracking sound, nothing, just noticed my tip was crooked. Rod broke about 11 inches from tip, another lesson learned the hard way.

Maybe too much wrapping tension Phil? The break looks like something dinged the blank first, or dug into it. Gotta say, the guide foot doesn't look prepped very much at all.
