Started off as a simple rebuild of a broken 5 wt. and took on a life of its own. Was fun to build, and so far seems to perform well in all areas. Just need to finalize guides now. Would have put it in Billy's contest but David's is far sleeker and sexier looking [ link ]

Now that's what I call multi tasking. Billy's contest? Did I miss something?

That is what you call "custom rod building." Very good idea and you have covered all the bases.

Cool! Here in Wisconsin, we are allowed three lines. I'm going to build one just like that, and I'll have all bases covered with one rod :-) Seriously though, very neat rod, I really like it!

Mick, I like the all around rod, it looks like you have all the bases covered on this one.

Mick, I think that is very clever...plus it's the first time I've seen a plate seat. My guess is it will be slightly tip heavy when set up as a spinning rod, but most are, to some extent. Is it set up to take a fighting butt? That could be used for balance if necessary. Another way to skin this cat is to get a couple of 5 or more piece rods (the same) and set one handle up spin/fly and the other one cast, but this is more unique.

Thanks guys. Was mainly just amusing myself and was surprised when each setup actually worked fairly well. Casting adds a stripper on top in the same wrap as the bottom stripper, then a bumper guide. Trying to find the best size compromise in the first two guides for spin/fly. David, not as tip heavy as you'd expect, though my cheap reel isn't the lightest thing in the world so it balances. Yes, the butt is still open and I have a 3" fighting butt made, but probably won't use it. The added length feels a bit awkward. I started with a skeletonized casting seat, but I didn't like it. Would look good with some ramps maybe. The trigger may need some shaving. It hasn't gotten in the way of test casting in spin, but it looks like it should, and maybe could. This was fun to do and gave me good notes if I ever make another, or rework this one. It'll be a fun "all-around" crappie/bluegill rod.

I don't know how I missed this the first time around - now that's a rod!
