It's 'experimental,' so not really finished; just wanted to see what a trigger felt like on a fly grip. The answer? I like it...

Interesting, I never thought about the trigger used like this before. I think it has a lot of possibilitys for the fly challenged Bass anglers like my self.

The rear seat definitely needs to be trimmed to fit better...and I am working on a much trimmed casting seat for the front, although if you want to be able to use this as a casting rod, we're only tallking about shortening the threads. A third possibility (hat tip BV) is to just mount a trigger, like the one Steve Libby shows a few pics back. The split grip idea sounds interesting...

I actually just finished doing this same thing last night, with the addition of a plate seat on the grip for a spinning reel. Nice work.

Well, this is actually fly/casting. As it's a two piece, 6'6", you'd probably do best by adding a small stripper on top and a bumper guide to turn it into a spiral. If it was a 4 piece (or even 3, depending on the length) then the stripper wouldn't even be on the handle section and you could simply rotate that section 180 and have a 'traditional' (guides on top) baitcaster, or just add an additional bumper guide. For the fly/spin combo, I prefer to use a threaded insert in the handle and add a 5-6" butt extension to act as the rear grip - If I knew how to link to it I would, but there's an example one or two pics back in my gallery. The guides are alconites, 12/10 the rest 6s; 9wt fly, probably 3/8 to 5/8 oz 10-17 lb test casting, and I haven't yet mounted the casting reel to see about balance. still experimenting...
