Sorry this is so long. I have had a few questions about how I got the slot there and thought this might help. I tried making the slot from the top but had no real luck. I than came up with this. I took the ring that you now see the foot in (before glueing it up.) estimaiting the deepth by using the size of the threaded part of the grip or the thickness of what a normal grip would be. Really just made a circle on the end of the ring. I than put a half moon shape (like the end of the reel foot) just above that circle. Then remove that section all the way thought the ring fitting it to the reel foot as I went. A small dril bit to start and than a small file, it took about five min. After that I glued everything up, marking the center of the slot I had made on top of or the outside of that ring so I would know where it was. You will notice it is between two black rings so I started lathing it down at the point where I wanted it to open up. As soon as it opened I than used a dremal and file to flatten out the spot where the reel foot would sit. I didn't have to mess with fileing anything out as it was already done. After that I just hand sand it to the point I wanted. The tough part is making sure that the depth of the slot is right to start with and it is level. I made it just a little to deep and the darn dremal works a little to well as I remove a little to much. If you look closley you can see a little gap between the foot and the seat. But for my first time I am really happy. If anyone wants more info just email me. roycehome@verizon.net The truth is that after I glued it up it took no more than 45 min to shape. I was suprise as to how easy it was. The poly which is form mesacraft is really nice to work with. The more I play with it I really think it will be strong enough. God I hope all that makes sence I stayed up way to late the night before and laid awake all night thinking about how to make it better. Is it just me or do all rod builders lay awake nights thinking about rod stuff. LOL yes I am addicted. Its fun and easy. Give it a try and there may be a better way to do it. Let me know how it goes.

G'day Allan,
Great job. I don't think I could try something like that as I am sure to stuff it up.
Yes I lay awake at night thinking rod building. Even going shopping with my wife I see the colour combos in the ladies department and think "geez those colours would look good on a wrap or a marble pattern". Some mornings I wake up ready to start were I left off from the night before and realise that it was only a dream, lol. Yes, I have a problem.
Cheers, Jan.
