For years I hauled huge Alvey reels and 14 ft. sticks up and down the beach.
Since I have begun making my own rods, I now fish as light as possible.
I am enjoying it much more, I catch more fish and I don't get nearly as tired carrying a bunch of heavy rods.
A common question about the cocobolo grips is traction when wet or slimy and weight. They have excellent grip traction when wet or slimy. In my opinion better than cork and they are not noticably heavier.
The surf environment is hard on cork and these grips have been standing up extremely well.

Yes, I am in Florida. The spring breakers are here and have taken the beaches hostage for a few weeks. This rod came off of the dryer last night and I am dying to try it out.

That's sad, I could tell it was a picture of Florida just fm the pic. I bet if I posted a pic with gargabe strewn about and graffitti on teh walls, you'd know it was in NY, lol.

Too funny and, too true.
Billy, you need to come down here for a few weeks. The water temps should be on the rise and the pompano should be showing up, along with jacks and sharks and tourist trout.
I fish Canaveral National Seashore with great results.
I also noticed that mudhole was out of the GUSA 78L the last time I was over there.
I think I'm going to put in an order for several just to have them in the corner.
