they don't grow to the size of spanish mackerel, 3-5kg is an average size.
Great fun to catch by casting metal slugs/lures into a school.
Rod used for this fish is my shakespear ugly (rod build number 7)with about 8kg line.
Also a good table fish.

I don't know where you are situated.
a good spotted mackeral around here would be around 10kg maybe a bit bigger, I would have to check.
My biggest spanish (narrow barred) is a bit over 23kg, they do get up to around 50kg, I've personally seen 46kg & 48kg.
We also get shark mackeral, school mackeral & grey mackerel (broard barred). Can post some pics if you like, I've caught all 5 species, they are fairly common around here.
What sizes do you expect to catch where you are??

Spanish Mackerel is the Aussie name for Narrow Barred Mackerel, or what you guys in the US call King Mackerel. Your Spanish Mackerel are probably more like our school macks
