This is my first shot at a fly rod handle. I realy like the birch bark, and the wood accents are cocobolo, ebony, and aspen. I think I will be using birch bark more often the look and feel are great. I hope the rest of this project go well.

That looks great. Is there much difference between the weight of birch bark and cork?

Ellis, I think there may be a little more weight in the birch bark, but I was surprised at soft feel and cork like consistency of the birch. Plus I just really like the way it looks.

You should be quite proud of that handle! It appears you have a firm grasp on what it takes to produce a fine piece of handle craftsmanship. But, after seeing your cabinentry skills, we should expect as much! LOL!

Very nice--what is the finish? I wish I had birch bark.

Thanks John, the finish is tru-oil. I picked up the birch bark from a company that makes birch bark canoes. They will sell the scrap pieces.
