Up locking, Ted. The blank is glued to the top section only, which protrudes through the bottom about 2"s to align the butt. You screw the butt section up to tighten the reel in place. Paul.
ps: As the soft touch material on the hood wears off, I sand it and polish it, it is all stainless steel.

Sweet. Cheers for that. That's just the final little detail I need. Mine will be downlocking, and I'll try and see how much I can trim the seat and hood down. Would you be able to post a pic of just the threaded section of the seat? Thanks again.

Excellent work Paul. I did one about 12 months ago with the purple heart which came out great. Did you have any problems getting the wood? It isn't very common.
