Those 3 "rings" in the grip, why did you choose to sand bands in there, as opposed to adding various colored trim rings to match the guide wraps? Id like to know how that foam holds up after the rod sees some use, my guess is teh high spots between the filing will get flattened or a little chewed up. Nice job.

I put the bands there just as something different. I did consider the wear and tear on the grips but you never actually are touching that part of the grip and it doesn't touch any sort of rod holder on the boat...so I expect that it will last a while. I can always fill em with thread and flexcoat 'em if they start to tear or deteriorate.

I like the rings or should I say grooves. It makes the handle look more custom and not so plain. I just built an EVA handle and I am going to put a couple sets of grooves on each end of the handle with a small V shaped file while turning it on a lathe. I'm thinking about putting thread and epoxy in the grooves but I am not sure how durable that will be.
