They're tough as nails though. You can step on these guides and nothing will happen.

Actually I did this a few years ago. I tend to go with lighter frames these days. In applications where I might use a USG like this one I now opt to use a more flexible LRSG. I feel it saves on epoxy cracks around the guide feet.

Yeah, these guides do not like to flex, good for stiff rods or stripper guide on stiffer part of the rod then transition to something else, would kind of look funny though. I've used them in between roller tip and stripper also.
