I finally got around to building a steady rest for the rod wrapper. Thanks go out again to Greg Pennell for the instructions on the wrapper. It is attractive, very funtional, and best of all saves mucho $$$ over the commercially available models. My hopes are that this option will allow me to attain perfection when coating guides. It is constructed using 7 phillips head gold screws, solid red oak board, an aluminum dowel, and plugs turned on the lathe. The thin black pinstriping was created courtesy of a tip from Mike Blomme. Use a parting tool to put a thin band in the wood and follow it up with a copper wire turned in the groove. Hold the wire until the groove begins to smoke and you've got a quick black pinstripe.
